Diploderma yunnanense (Yunnan Japalure)

The common name of this Agamid Lizard in English is commonly called Yunnan Japalure and Thai name called กิ้งก่าดอยยูนนาน (Ging-gaa Doi Yunnan).

กิ้งก่าดอยยูนนาน : Diploderma yunnanense (Anderson, 1878)

Diploderma yunnanense is a species of the Mountain lizard Genus (Diploderma) within the Subfamily Draconinae, in the Agamid Lizard Family (Agamidae), Superfamily Iguania, in the Lizard and Snake Order (Squamata), in the Reptile Class (Reptilia), in the Chordate Phylum (Chordata) in the Animal Kingdom (Animalia).

Geographic Range

This species is endemic to southern China (Das 2010), where it is found in Yunnan from 1,400 to 2,770 m asl. A report from Cambodia is in error; Das (2010) refers this to the subspecies Japalura yunnanensis popae [or popei], presently a junior synonym of Diploderma swinhonis, which likewise does not occur in Cambodia - the type was assumed to be labelled erroneously (Ota 2000). Reports from Thailand may actually be D. menghaiense (Liu et al. 2020).

Habitat and Ecology

This species primarily lives in subtropical forests, and is mostly arboreal. It has been recorded from both primary and secondary forest.

Type locality: neighbourhood of Teng-yue-chow, Momein, W. Yunnan.

This species is often collected for the domestic pet trade (D.Q. Rao pers. comm. 2018).
