Dixonius mekongensis (Sandstone-dwelling leaf-toed gecko)

The common name of this Gecko Lizard in English is commonly called Mekong leaf-toed gecko, Sandstone-dwelling leaf-toed gecko and Thai name called จิ้งจกดินแม่โขง (Djing-djok Din Mae Kohng).

Dixonius mekongensis is a species of the Leaf-toed Gecko Genus (Dixonius) within the Gecko Lizard Family (Gekkonidae), Superfamily Gekkota, in the Lizard and Snake Order (Squamata), in the Reptile Class (Reptilia), in the Chordate Phylum (Chordata) in the Animal Kingdom (Animalia).

The specific epithet "mekongensis" refers to the Mekong River and the Greater Mekong Subregion. A cliff bordering the type-locality offers a spectacular view of this majestic river.

Geographic Range

Distribution: East Thailand (Ubon Ratchathani Province: Pha Taem National Park and surroundings)

Type locality: Sandstone platform (ca. 15°27’19.1”N, 105°34’12.0”E), Na Pho Klang Sub-district, Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, eastern Thailand.
